3 Our Office is Going Green...

My friends {and co-workers} and I have started a recycling program at work! Since we don't have curbside recycling in New Orleans, we had to work a little harder to find ways to recycle. This is something that we have wanted to do for a while, but the last few weeks things have really fallen into place. Our aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and glass can be dropped off at Whole Foods, which is conveniently located across the street. The paper project was a bit more difficult, but today we found the perfect place about 10 minutes from our office. The people that worked there were so nice and helpful. We kind of had fun, there were mounds of paper everywhere, and a huge box of Jif labels that we thought were really awesome. My favorite pic is definitely the action shot....

1 New Orleans Customs House

The other part of the AIA tour discussed yesterday was the Customs House {which houses the Insectarium}. It was built in the 1800's and the spaces are completely incredible. That said, it would be the perfect setting for a horror movie.

8 New Orleans Audubon Institute INSECTARIUM

As an Architect, you get to do all kinds of cool things, like tour people's homes, go behind the scenes at some of the most historic building in the US, and play at museums while they are closed. Last week, I did two of the three. Lauren, Dante, and I toured the brand new New Orleans Audubon Institute INSECTARIUM. It was completely phenomenal...I totally recommend this to anyone in town. Lauren had a blast in the butterfly sanctuary, where butterflies live in a semi-natural habitat filled with beautiful flowers, natural light, and a koi pond with mini waterfall. The butterfly displays were my favorite...just take a look...

2 Staycation with the Lulu

The Lulu and I had lots of fun while she was is New Orleans this week. It was actually like a little staycation for me, which I really enjoyed. We explored the city: shopping on Magazine, the French Market, playing in the Quarter, eating beignets at Cafe Du Monde, visited the Aquarium and the Insectarium (more to come on this one) saw an IMAX movie, visited a cemetery, and spent the night at the W.

We ate lunch and had Pimm's Cups at Napoleon House {one of my favorite places in the city}. Lu is a mostly vegetarian {more mostly that I am} but she couldn't resist eating a salami poor boy. I tried to document this, but she hid the evidence under her napkin, and then got upset because I wouldn't let her eat it in peace. Tehehe...
